Aesthetics

The Evo comes only in white, featuring light accents to add a classy touch to the overall feel of the gi.

The front for the chest is mostly plain, eschewing the typical chest patch on the left in favour of the words 'Evo 2.0' embroidered on the right instead. This is complemented by a the word 'Manto' embroidered on the collar. The back is equally plain, featuring only the word 'Manto' embroidered in baby blue, leaving ample space for customisations with personal patches.

The shoulder patches feature the Manto logo with the eye-catching yellowish-gold, an excellent accent that adds a lovely spark to the gi. The insides of the sleeve and pant cuffs, as well the skirt, are lined with the Manto taping, adding a subtle design while maintaining the clean look.

The pants is pretty much bare as well, save for the baby blue Manto embroidered on the bottom right pant leg, and the use of a blue drawstring as an accent.

In essence, a simple and good looking gi for those who prefer understated to showy.

Form & Fit

The Evo ranges from A1 to A4, with the size chart pretty sparse on details. A1 was described as 'up to 5'8" ' with no indication of weight, so I was afraid that it would come out as too long and baggy for my height of 169cm and 64kg.

Out of the bag, the gi was a little long on the pants for me, although the top was quite snug, almost as snug as the Fuji. Definitely a slim fit gi. There was some shrinkage after washing and the gi fit pretty well.

Here are the pre and post-wash measurements below, after cold wash and hang drying.

Functionality

The Evo is a lightweight single weave, feeling thin and light to wear. It is also fairly soft and comfortable compared to my pearl weaves.

The gi pants is made of cotton ripstop, making it softer and more pliable than the waxy ripstop pants that comes with some gis. The knees are reinforced with padding, and the pants features 4 loops with a rope drawstring. The loops are placed right, while the drawstring is stretchy and works great keeping the pants in place. For some reason, they've decided not to burn and seal the ends of the drawstring, however it has yet to present any problems and is perfectly fine the way it is.

Collar thickness is good, only marginally thinner than the Fuji Lightweight Summer gi.

Reinforcements are where you expect them to be at the armpits and chest, with a thick patch at the skirt's split seams. Despite being a single weave, it has held up well in training so far with minimal signs of wear.

Affordability

The gi retails at USD $149.95 (SGD $195) at Manto USA's website, falling into the mid-range pricing for gis. The gi ships internationally, although shipping rates aren't necessarily the best for international orders.

Conclusion

The Manto Evo 2.0 is a simple and classy looking gi that is a great lightweight competition gi. The slim cut makes it an excellent choice for those who prefer a snug fit.
